As a teacher of all the different types of students, aspiring beginners of all ages, fire-cracking child prodigies (or at least those who think they are), I find that there are still very useful for new students with some tips for pre-study support and advice. With over 25 years of teaching experience, it never surprises me the kind of questions I ask myself. Do I need a piano? How long do I become a concert pianist? The list is both funny and infinitely. But here are the things you should ask yourself before you start looking for a teacher:
What is my purpose?
Save yourself time and address as follows: what I really want to play outside? Is it for business, retirement, recreation or entertainment? Do I have an idea of the kind of book, I want to play? Piano jazz or classical? Boogie-woogie, a waltz by Chopin and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, for example? Whether you are a beginner or re-start, try to get a sense of purpose in mind how unrealistic it (later, you can always refine your enthusiasm), at first glance. Investigated?
